One role, four disciplines
Flexfurn, a Limburg-based SME backed by a strong private equity partner, is the leading specialist in innovative, stylish, and practical furniture for any event or business setting. To support their continued growth, they approached Stroom with a rather challenging request: finding a Supply Chain Manager who could combine warehousing, procurement, planning, and inventory management into a single role and who, ideally, would also have a technical background and strong people management skills.
“Since this is not an easy role but a very important one for our organization, we decided to conduct the search in collaboration with a reliable partner—in this case, Stroom. We are very satisfied with the collaboration: it’s been a great customer journey.”
– Christa Alders, CEO of Flexfurn
The challenge: the whole picture from A to Z
Flexfurn is an SME with 30 FTEs, and that was directly reflected in the job profile we were looking for. We weren’t looking for a candidate from a large multinational, but rather someone who feels at home in an environment where speed, independence, pragmatism, and short decision-making lines are key. At the same time, that profile really had to cover the entire spectrum: from the warehouse to purchasing, from planning to inventory management. A combination that doesn’t come along often and all within the right budget. The seasoned Supply Chain Manager with twenty years of experience was therefore never the goal; finding the right profile was.

Stroom’s approach: targeted search, thorough screening
Instead of submitting as many resumes as possible, Stroom chose to narrow down the field and opt for a rigorous, targeted screening process. Together with Flexfurn’s CEO and Operations Manager, a constructive and critical selection process was established, in which patience and trust were central to the search for the right candidate:
- A targeted search was set up through Stroom’s search channels and network, focusing on candidates outside the traditional multinational environment;
- Thorough screening based on both skills and personality, not just on paper qualifications;
- Focus on leadership potential, given that the candidate will also be responsible for managing a growing team;
- Assessing cultural fit: Does this person fit in with the team and Flexfurn’s way of working?
- A pleasant, efficient collaboration with open communication between Stroom and Flexfurn’s management.
